The idea of a beach vacation in Canada raises many eyebrows since many people tend to associate Canada with Niagara Falls, arctic wilderness and unspoiled mountain peaks. But, Canada also has a large expanse of bays and oceans that provide the background for a perfect beach vacation.
Wasaga Beach in Ontario
Wasaga beach is located on the southern end of the Georgian Bay and is about two hours north of Toronto. This is one of the most popular beaches in Canada and it attracts more than two million visitors every year. One can walk along the shores of the beach with the Canadian Blue Mountains in the background or use the recreational trails along its shores for cycling, cross-country skiing, hiking and snowmobiling. Canoeing and fishing routes are also available for visitors.
Point Peele on Lake Erie
Another popular beach vacation is Point Peele that extends into Lake Erie in southern Ontario. This is a peninsula filled with marshes and woodland and the southern tip opens into a spectacular beach. It is on the migratory path for many birds and butterflies and one can catch a glimpse of these winged creatures on this beach. It has more than 12 kilometers of hiking and biking trails that pass along the beaches and the wetlands and offer a one of a kind experience for travelers. The 1.4 km marsh boardwalk is a special attraction of this beach.
Sauble Beach
Sauble beach is another popular beach in Canada and is located on the eastern shores of Lake Huron in Ontario. The unique aspect of this beach is that it is warm and shallow and makes for a perfect family beach vacation during the summer. It abounds with many recreational activities such as water sports, windsurfing, canoeing, swimming and beach volleyball. The Sauble Beach festival, sand castle festival and the annual winter fest add more fun and excitement to this place.
Qualicum Beach, British Columbia
Qualicum beach is located in the province of British Columbia and is well-known for its gravel beaches and the turquoise blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. Other than the breathtaking beauty of this beach, one can do other activities such as golfing, fishing, canoeing, boating and aqua sports. There are many smaller beaches in Manitoba and Yukon that are situated amidst wilderness and offer a unique experience to travelers. Beaches in Canada are characterized to have clear waters with beautiful surrounding scenery which together make a perfect place for a romantic weekend getaway or a fun family vacation.
