Manitoulin Island Travel Guide

Manitoulin Island Lake Sunset Manitoulin Island is in the southeastern part of the Ontario, located on Lake Huron bordering Muskoka and the North Channel in the east and north respectively. It contains about 108 freshwater lakes and many islands, making it the largest area of island on a freshwater lake in the world. It also has four rivers that provide ample salmon and trout for residents and visitors all year around. This island has two major towns – Northeastern Manitoulin and Gore Bay and six native American reserves. This island can be reached by road through the bridge from a place called Little Current on the North Channel. During summer, a ferry called MS Chi-Cheemaun plies through this island. It can also be reached by air and there is an airport at Gore Bay.

During July and August, the residents of Manitoulin Island host many festivals and fairs such as the Manitoulin country fest and Wikwemikong Cultural festival that can give you a unique insight into the rich culture and heritage of this place.
