Wasaga Beach Travel Guide
Most people don’t peg Ontario
as a province of many beaches. Bet you didn’t know that
Wasaga is home to one of the world’s longest stretches of freshwater beach
– almost fourteen kilometers long. A perfect destination for those who love the
proverbial long, romantic walks along the beach. In
Wasaga, that’s going to be one long walk!
Wasaga Beach stretches along the coast
of the Nottawasaga Bay. River breezes moderate the summer temperatures. The same
river breezes cause some pretty heavy snowfall in the winter, making it a great
destination for winter sports. Imagine a white sand beach, warm, pristine water,
and a mountain panorama to gaze at while sunbathing. This is summer in
Wasaga Beach. It’s no small wonder that two million tourists frequent the
area each summer. The Nottawasaga is also a fantastic destination for summer water
sports such as boating, waterskiing, kayaking, and the great Canadian pastime of
canoeing.
While beach-bumming might be the summer activity of choice, those of us who prefer
a more active vacation won’t be disappointed. Beach volleyball is a popular summer
pastime, but Wasaga isn’t all beaches. The area is also home to Wasaga Provincial
Park, where you can walk a long boardwalk between beaches. The area is also brimming
with fantastic game fishing spots along the Nottawasaga, and you’ll find many forested
trails for hiking and cycling. In the winter, thanks to Ontario Federation of Snowmobile
Clubs, there are endless kilometers of freshly groomed snowmobiling trails. There
are also trails for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. You can actually find
cross-country trails along the beach. The area also hosts several golf clubs.
